Issue 77 - Click, Create, Comply: The Week AI Went Hands-On
From browser bots to design boosts, how to put this week’s AI upgrades to work: fast, simple, no jargon.

Editors Note
From Africa’s builder energy to hackathon momentum to a STEM honor, last week was all about community, creativity, and impact. AI just got more “hands-on.” Models are clicking around the web for you, designers are getting built-in AI superpowers, and GPT-5 is raising the bar for coding and agentic tasks. Here’s what matters (and how to use it) without the jargon.

Spotlight: Last Week’s Wins
I had the honor of being recognized at Dallas Fashion Week’s Science of Style, a fundraiser supporting The GEMS Camp and young girls pursuing futures in STEM. The evening celebrated where art meets science. Global designers lit up the runway, and thoughtful touches, from elegant Tiffany boxes to custom blazers, sparked purpose-driven conversations. I’m grateful to GEMS Camp for a beautifully executed event and humbled to be acknowledged alongside visionary leaders. Here’s to creating more spaces where imagination meets impact and where girls see themselves not just as dreamers but as designers of the future.
I knew it was big, but the numbers made it real: out of 2,844 applicants, fewer than 10%, just 214 were selected for the hackathon, and I was one of them. Life didn’t pause (work, school runs, cheer practice, caregiving, and the dogs), but I still shipped my submission. The window was short, the growth was huge. A few tweaks left I can’t wait to share the app soon. You can sign up to try your hand with Lovable HERE.

I had the privilege of attending Vibecode Africa in Dallas on Saturday, and the energy was electric. I joined a panel on Vibe Coding to share insights, then helped judge four standout teams building Vibe Code applications—the winning project impressed with an innovative telehealth solution and multilingual service delivery. It was a powerful reminder of how AI and innovation can transform communities and help uplift a continent.

The Future of the Content Economy
beehiiv started with newsletters. Now, they’re reimagining the entire content economy.
On November 13, beehiiv’s biggest updates ever are dropping at the Winter Release Event.
For the people shaping the next generation of content, community, and media, this is an event you won’t want to miss.
Google’s new agent can “use” a browser like you
Summary: Google released the Gemini 2.5 Computer Use model—an agent that navigates websites (open, click, type, drag) the way you would, not just via APIs. It’s available via the Gemini API and built to automate real UI tasks.
Why it matters (takeaway): Point-and-click automation is coming to everyday workflows—think filling forms, checking prices, updating dashboards.
Try it: If you use Google Workspace or any web tools, list 2–3 repetitive browser tasks (e.g., uploading a report, checking order status). Pilot one task with a low-risk account using the Computer Use demos/API.
OpenAI launches GPT-5
Summary: OpenAI’s GPT-5 focuses on stronger coding, front-end generation, long tool-calling chains, and better steerability—aimed at building working apps and agents with less prompting. It’s rolling into ChatGPT and the API.
Why it matters (takeaway): Shipping functional UIs and automations from a single prompt is becoming normal.
Try it: Paste a screenshot or spec of a simple app you want (pricing page, calculator). Ask GPT-5 to generate a responsive, accessible version and include: “Use semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and a11y-friendly color contrast.”
Figma + Google Cloud bring Gemini models into design workflows
Summary: Figma announced a partnership to integrate Gemini 2.5 Flash, Gemini 2.0, and Imagen 4 for AI-assisted design, editing, and image generation across its platform. Why it matters (takeaway): Non-designers can get to “good first drafts” faster—mockups, assets, and iterations speed up.
Try it: In your next wireframe sprint, generate three alt versions with AI (different tone: playful, minimal, bold). A/B the variants with your team and ship whichever reduces user steps the most.
EU AI Act deadlines are live—and more are coming
Summary: The EU’s AI Act bans “unacceptable-risk” systems (effective Feb 2, 2025), sets transparency rules for general-purpose AI within 12 months of entry into force, and gives 36 months for high-risk systems to comply. SMEs get practical guidance.
Why it matters (takeaway): Even small teams need a lightweight AI risk checklist (what data, which model, what safeguards).
Try it: Start a one-pager: model used, data sources, user impact, human-in-the-loop step, opt-out path, and incident contact. Share it with your team and vendors to align early.
Chatbot of the Week Chris - Content Idea Generator
What it is: An ideation helper that brainstorms content ideas based on your niche and is perfect for social, email, and blogs.
Features: Fast topic ideation, tailored to platform and audience; includes example prompts to get you started.
How to use it (quick start):
Tell it your niche + goal (e.g., “educate freelancers on pricing”).
Ask for 10 post ideas across Reels, LinkedIn, and newsletter with hooks + CTAs.
Follow up: “Turn #3 into a 3-post series with a save-worthy checklist.”
